Callum Wilson simply cannot believe what he's heard said about Jurgen Klopp recently

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson cannot believe a minority of Liverpool fans are claiming Jurgen Klopp needs to leave the club.

Speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast with West Ham United’s Michail Antonio, the Magpies star was taken aback by calls for the Reds manager to be sacked.

“Someone called up Five Live the other day saying that Klopp needs to go,” said the podcast’s presenter.

“That’s crazy!” Wilson exclaimed.

“That’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. It’d be ludicrous. Getting rid of him would just be stupidity,” Antonio asserted.

“It’s stupid,” Wilson replied. “Who are you going to in charge ahead of him who would be more successful than him? You should be getting a statue of him let alone talking about him getting sacked! It’s a pointless conversation. Klopp needs to be in charge of Liverpool, Klopp is Liverpool. Whoever is calling up needs to rethink, they’re wasting their credit!”

Wilson says Klopp needs to stay at Liverpool

Wilson is absolutely spot on with his assessment here.

Klopp has worked absolute wonders with what he’s been given at Liverpool, and in no way should the club repay the favour by sacking him when times have gotten tough.

Although the manager may have been partly responsible for a couple of poor results this season, he certainly isn’t the issue at Anfield.

Ultimately, the German has never been fully backed by Fenway Sports Group in the transfer market.

Consequently, it has been truly remarkable to see the Reds competing with Manchester City year-in, year-out, as they only have a fraction of the Sky Blues’ budget.

Over time, Klopp’s squad has been run into the ground. Without additions and even replacements, a slump was always going to occur.

Therefore, the blame can be shifted to FSG and their lack of investment into the squad.

Hopefully when new owners come in, they’ll be willing to give Klopp the transfer budget he deserves.
