Jamie Carragher believes Stefan Bajcetic was ‘outstanding’ for Liverpool as they beat Wolves 1-0. The 18-year-old started for the Reds.
Liverpool came away from Molineux with a 1-0 win – and that’s somewhat surprising. The Reds’ form has been awful in recent weeks, after all, and Jurgen Klopp named a rotated side.
It saw Harvey Elliott start from the right flank and the 19-year-old took his chance to show his incredible talent. His wondergoal settled the game and rightfully so.
But Elliott wasn’t the only teenager to catch the eye. Stefan Bajcetic started as the holding midfielder and put in a really solid performance alongside Thiago and Naby Keita.
Jamie Carragher was certainly impressed. He took to Twitter to celebrate Liverpool’s narrow victory, picking out Bajcetic for praise.
“Good win for Liverpool,” he wrote. “18 year old Stefan Bajcetic was outstanding.”
Carragher wasn’t the only one to hail Bajcetic tonight, either. Alan Shearer mentioned him on commentary, saying the Spaniard should be ‘proud’ of his display.
Stefan Bajcetic for Liverpool
Bajcetic certainly does feel like a special talent and one who keeps on finding ways to impress. He did it again tonight and Liverpool have one for the future here.
The big question is how big a part of their present he should play. Bajcetic isn’t perfect and can make mistakes here and there, but that’s to be expected by someone so young. If Liverpool have the patience to see those mistakes out, we think he’ll be a valuable player between now and the end of the season.
As for next season, Bajcetic should certainly have a role. He’s the future replacement for Fabinho, that much is clear, and Liverpool should prioritise him as that.
With any luck, he’ll become something akin to the Brazilian – and should be around for a long time to come.
