Report: Premier League star Moises Caicedo now likely to be too expensive for Liverpool to sign

Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo is likely to be too expensive for Liverpool to sign, according to The Athletic.

As per the report, the 21-year-old is widely admired by a number of teams in the Premier League, and the Reds have been very keen to land the youngster at Anfield this term.

However, it is believed that the Seagulls’ tough transfer policy will prove prohibitive in negotiating for the Ecuador international.

The south-coast club want £70m for the player, and this is likely to be too expensive for Liverpool to shell out.

Brighton CEO Paul Barber has previously joked that £42m would only be enough to buy the laces of his boots.

Caicedo too expensive for Liverpool

While this is a big fee to pay for a youngster who was signed for just £4.5m back in 2021, Caicedo is exactly what Jurgen Klopp needs in the middle of the park.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho are the two players expected to win the ball back in midfield. However, it has been Thiago Alcantara who has taken the responsibility this term, throwing questions as to what the other two actually do for Liverpool.

At just 21-years-old, the Ecuadorian is already dominating Premier League midfields. Therefore, while he is certainly a prospect for the future, he is also capable of making a huge difference now.

The Reds seriously run the risk of missing out on a place in the top-four if they don’t sign a quality midfielder this month.

In the long run, they will lose more money than if they were to spend £70m on bringing Caicedo to Anfield.

Consequently, the club should do all they can to land him as soon as possible, as the side’s season really could depend on it.
