Liverpool midfielders Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are very likely to leave the club in the summer, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Taking to his Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside’s Substack, the reporter has claimed that the Reds duo are unlikely to remain at Anfield next season, as talk of extensions has recently gone rather quiet.
“As reported and also mentioned here multiple times, I expect Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both have very good chances of leaving Liverpool in June,” Romano said.
“At the moment, new deal talks are very quiet.”
Currently, both Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain are out of contract on June 30.
Keita and Ox likely to leave
While it was expected that Oxlade-Chamberlain was likely to leave the club at the end of his deal, Keita’s future with the club was a bit more in the air.
Although he is yet to start in the Premier League for Liverpool this season, he has come off the bench in the last four matches.
Furthermore, making a substitute appearance in the FA Cup against Wolves, the 27-year-old immediately made an impact. In the middle of the park, he was head and shoulders better than any other Reds midfielder.
Hailed by Jurgen Klopp as an ‘outstanding player’, Keita’s talent has never been the issue for the club.
Instead, his extensive injury history has proven prohibitive with his game-time.
Therefore, unless he can prove to Liverpool that he can stay fit for the remainder of the season, it is likely he will leave on a free transfer this summer.
