‘Exceptional’: Jurgen Klopp says there was still one thing he loved from today’s game, despite losing 3-0

Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise on the Liverpool fans for their response to today’s 3-0 loss against Brighton.

The Reds were beaten comfortably at the Amex Stadium, with their hosts in full control. It was yet another showing on the road that left supporters feeling utterly despondent.

There wasn’t much to shout about for Klopp, or the fans. But, speaking to liverpoolfc.com after the game, the Liverpool manager said his team’s supporters had still been ‘exceptional.’

“I think they were exceptional, to be honest. They realised it was not our day and they still showed they are real supporters,” he gushed.

Klopp was spotted heading over to the away support at full-time, hands raised in apology. Asked about his interaction with the travelling Kop, the German said it was his way of thanking the fans for their support.

“How can you really show or say thank you, but that was my way to do it,” he said.

Liverpool fans to remain patient

As far as football fans go, Liverpool supporters tend to be more patient than most. There won’t be too many knee-jerk reactions at the side’s current malaise.

But at the same time, this shouldn’t be mistaken for something that it isn’t. Fans recognise the efforts of Klopp and his players for what they’ve given the club over the years. Many of them are club legends and the manager sits at the top of that pile.

However, they aren’t immune to criticism. And this little patch of dreadful form has gone on for far too long now.

There won’t be any open mutiny, as there may be at a Chelsea or a Manchester United. But should effort levels not be increased far, far beyond they are at the moment, the players and Klopp will be in for some rough treatment.

You’d think that things would have to get a fair bit worse before we see that, though. The lads have more than enough credit in the bank to ensure that.

There will be widespread faith that Klopp and his staff are the right people to find the answers to this season’s problems. Support will remain, but the fans who spent their Saturday travelling the 270-odd miles down to Brighton deserve better.
