Liverpool have two names up for the FIFA The Best award. The Reds also see a very ‘special’ transfer target get a nod.

FIFA announced their nominees for their The Best awards this week. Said awards include best player and best goalkeeper – with Liverpool getting players nominated for each.

‘Best Goalkeeper’ isn’t exactly a difficult one to figure out. Alisson is there, having won the award back in 2019. Thibaut Courtois is arguably the favourite this year, though, with World Cup-winner Emi Martínez a dark horse.

As for the main award, Liverpool are there twice. Mohamed Salah gets a nomination – perhaps a debatable one, too, after a poor start to the year. His form this season has been fantastic, though.

Sadio Mané is there also. He was sensational for Liverpool to kick-off 2022 before moving to Bayern Munich. His efforts for Senegal in winning AFCON was always going to get him on the list.

But while those are the only two Liverpool players on the list, there is one more name of note.

19-year-old Jude Bellingham is also up for the award. His season with Borussia Dortmund has been outstanding, after all, while his World Cup caught everyone’s eye.

And, of course, he’s a player Liverpool want to sign. The Athletic are among those claiming that the Reds are pushing hard for the player. In fact, Fabrizio Romano says they’re so desperate to sign him that it’s actually ‘obsessive’.

He’s a ‘special’ player, after all, in the words of Michael Owen. Bellingham feels like the kind of talent that only comes around once in a generation and Liverpool want to make sure he spends his best years with them.

The fact he’s up for an award like this at such a young age shows just how great his talent is. Now Liverpool just need to hope that it doesn’t boost his price even further.
