Liverpool U21’s manager Barry Lewtas has now shared his thoughts on Calvin Ramsay’s sending off against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Speaking with the club’s official site about his side’s 2-0 loss to Spurs, the Reds boss suggested it was a harsh decision to award the 19-year-old a red card for his last-man mistake.

“Their lad is through on goal, there is a little coming together,” Lewtas said.

“I’ve got to be honest, if it was the other way, I’d probably be expecting it. It’s a little bit unfortunate for Calvin in that particular moment.

“I’m not too sure about the red card though. I just felt there was a lot of inconsistencies in the game really and their second goal was part of that as well.

“It is what it is and maybe it just wasn’t our day all round.”

Ramsay harshly sent off

Having struggled with injuries this season, the right-back has not enjoyed the career he would have hoped for when he signed from Aberdeen last summer.

Joining in a deal worth £6.5m, Ramsay has made just two appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s first-team thus far.

His debut came in November as a substitute against Napoli in the Champions League. This was followed a week later by playing the full 90 minutes in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup victory against Derby County.

However, the 19-year-old has largely been absent due to injuries, and he has thus been sent to the U21’s to gain his fitness where he can.

Having looked well on the way to gaining his full fitness back, Ramsay’s sending off will come as a huge blow for the player.

Hopefully when all of this is behind him and he is featuring week-in, week-out injury free, Klopp will give him the chance to demonstrate his abilities for the Reds first-team.
