Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay was sent off whilst playing for the U21’s this afternoon, with manager Jurgen Klopp stood watching on.

Having struggled with injuries this term, the 19-year-old has not enjoyed the career he would have hoped for when he signed from Aberdeen last summer.

Starting for Barry Lewtas’ U21’s side in the Premier League 2 this afternoon as the Reds took on Tottenham Hotspur, the Scotsman had a moment to forget when he was sent off midway through the first half.

When a clever ball was played in between the Liverpool centre-back and right-back, the Spurs striker burst through on goal with Ramsay in pursuit.

However, trying so hard not to make the foul and get around the other side of the attacker, the full-back tripped the man down, just outside the penalty box.

Consequently, he was shown a red card.

Unfortunately, Klopp was in attendance. He was pictured watching on as three of his first-team players had started: Ben Doak, Curtis Jones and Ramsay.

Ramsay sent off for the U21’s

Having arrived at Anfield last summer, Ramsay has only made two appearances for Klopp’s senior side.

After the 19-year-old had been on the bench for Liverpool’s Champions League matches against Rangers and Ajax, he was given his debut as a substitute in the 2-0 win over Napoli.

Furthermore, the Scotland international played the full 90 minutes for the Reds in the Carabao Cup when they faced Derby County.

Having impressed, it’s been a shame to see the youngster struggle with injuries since making the move to Merseyside.

Hailed by Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin as ‘outstanding’ for his Liverpool debut against Napoli, Ramsay certainly has a huge future ahead of him.

Therefore, it is only a matter of time until he is fit and ready to make a bigger impression for Klopp’s first-team.
