Liverpool are delighted by the progress made by youngster Leighton Clarkson, who is currently on loan with Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
As relayed by The Scotsman, Dons manager Jim Goodwin has shared an update on the 21-year-old, who is excelling this season in Scotland’s top-flight.
Whilst it was suggested that the defensive midfielder could return to Anfield following the loan arrival of Slovakian midfielder Patrik Myslovič from Žilina until the end of the season, the Aberdeen boss has confirmed Clarkson will remain with the club.

“And Leighton Clarkson, we have had constant dialogue up until last week explaining to Liverpool that we are delighted with what Leighton is doing right now,” Goodwin said.
“We are really pleased with the progress he is making, and Liverpool have kept really close tabs on him. They are delighted with his continued development, playing week in week out in the Scottish Premiership.
“He has been one of our better, more consistent players of the season. Leighton gives us that little creativity in the middle of the pitch. He is growing and growing from strength to strength I believe. Liverpool are delighted and are not looking to bring him back.”
Clarkson excelling at Aberdeen
Thus far this season, the midfielder has made 19 appearances for the Scottish club. The youngster has bagged four goals and an assist in 17 Premiership matches, having also managed a goal and an assist in two League Cup clashes.
Having been utilised offensively, centrally and defensively, the 21-year-old has gained a lot of experience playing various positions in the middle of the park this term.
Clarkson has maintained his place in the starting XI for Aberdeen, who are one of the biggest teams outside of the Old Firm in Scotland.

With such success over the border, Liverpool have no reason to recall the youngster from his loan move.
If he continues to improve, he may receive chances with the Reds first-team next season.
However, the more likely scenario is that he will go out on loan once again, possibly to the Championship – like Tyler Morton has with Blackburn Rovers this term.
