Ibrahima Konate has claimed that new Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo already looks ‘comfortable’ at the club.
Gakpo took part in his first training session as a Liverpool player yesterday, as the squad prepared to face Wolves. And, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Konate gave his first impressions of his new teammate.
“I only trained with him [on Thursday] and he’s comfortable, he’s happy to be here,” said the Frenchman. “We are also happy to be with him in this season and we know he did a very great World Cup. I hope he will help us a lot.”
Gakpo is reportedly in contention to make his Liverpool debut in the FA Cup third-round tie tomorrow evening.

Gakpo looking to follow Konate’s lead
From the pictures we can see of Gakpo’s first session at the AXA Training Centre, he does indeed look very comfortable.
The Dutchman looks to have taken a shine to Darwin Nunez in particular.
That’s great news as he aims to settle in mid-season. One thing that Gakpo has going in his favour is that his English appears to be very good.
This is in contrast to both Nunez and Luis Diaz, who are still taking lessons in a bid to improve their communication. Gakpo should have no such trouble.

With countryman Virgil van Dijk out of action with a hamstring injury, he is being forced to fend for himself amongst his new teammates.
Although no doubt disappointing for both Gakpo and Van Dijk, this will probably do Cody good in the long-run.
Instead of sticking to Virgil, he now has no-one to hide behind.
Konate’s own move to Liverpool will still be fresh in his memory. The France star handled his transition with aplomb, slowly morphing into a really important player at Anfield. Being the same age as Gakpo, hopefully he can help his new colleague do the same.
