Jurgen Klopp is likely to hand Cody Gakpo his Liverpool debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup on Saturday.
That’s according to the Liverpool Echo. They claim the 23-year-old was only registered as a Reds player on New Year’s Day, meaning it would have been a quite a rush for the youngster to feature against Brentford in the league last night.
As a result, when the Old Gold travel to Anfield at the weekend for the third round of the FA Cup, Klopp is then expected to give the Netherlands international the opportunity to make his Merseyside debut.
Gakpo signed for Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven on a five-and-a-half-year contract in a deal worth an initial £37m, which could potentially rise to £44m.

With injuries sustained by Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino, the Reds were quick to act when looking to bring in an extra attacker. The club announced the signing before the January transfer window had even opened.
Highly touted with a move to Manchester United, the Merseyside outfit pulled off an incredible coup with the Dutchman’s signing.
In 24 appearances for PSV this season, Gakpo sensationally bagged 13 goals and 17 assists – catapulting his name onto the European football scene.
At the World Cup, the 23-year-old even scored in each of the Netherlands’ group games, illustrating his ability to remain composed on the world’s biggest stage.
Going forward, Reds fans will be excited to see the winger in action at Anfield. Hailed as a ‘diamond’ by AZ Alkmaar head coach Pascal Jansen, Gakpo’s talents are clear to see.
However, Liverpool remain desperate for a midfielder. If this issue isn’t rectified, it doesn’t matter how well the Dutchman plays; Klopp’s side will continue to struggle to win games.
