Jamie Carragher doesn’t believe Liverpool need Jude Bellingham. There’s a different kind of midfielder that the Reds are crying out for.
Jamie Carragher tore into Liverpool on Monday after their shocking performance away at Brentford. The Reds lost 3-1 and struggled badly to cope with their hosts.
In short, Brentford just consistently created chances. It was all too easy for them as they played passes in behind Liverpool or were able to move through midfield. For watching Reds, it was all too familiar from this season.
And that’s why Carragher doesn’t believe Jude Bellingham is the answer for Liverpool. They need a different kind of midfielder in the heart of their midfield.

“Thiago, for me, is not a problem if the other two are full of energy and have the power to stop counter-attacks and the opposition,” he told Sky Sports.
“Everyone keeps talking about Jude Bellingham – Liverpool haven’t got a problem going forward. It’s actually a midfielder to stop the opposition coming right through them [that they need].”
Liverpool don’t need Jude Bellingham
Bellingham certainly doesn’t fix the problems we’re seeing at Liverpool right now. That’s for sure. But we can’t believe that the club would only sign the teenager.
For one, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are all out of contract in the summer. Signing one midfielder wouldn’t even make up the numbers in the middle, let alone improve things.

So while we certainly believe Bellingham should be target no.1, we agree with Carragher that he’s not entirely the answer. It’s absolutely vital that Liverpool bring in a defence-first player alongside the player.
In fact, they’ll probably need two. That’s the situation they’ve put themselves in with an ageing midfield and a lack of signings over the last four years.
It’s a situation they can fix – but it won’t be easy.
