Didi Hamann believes Newcastle’s Joelinton would be an ideal player for Liverpool. The Reds certainly need a new midfielder.
Didi Hamann has been doing a lot more talking recently. He’s been discussing Liverpool for various outlets and their ongoing pursuit of a midfielder.
In short, Hamann isn’t sure that Liverpool should spend massively on Jude Bellingham, as it’s too much of a risk. He does like the Cody Gakpo deal, though – as he feels the Reds need that kind of midfielder.
Now, Gakpo isn’t a midfielder and plays as a left-winger and forward, but we’ll leave that for now. Instead, another interesting quite from Hamann came up as he talked about ‘another’ midfielder that would suit Liverpool.

“I always look at Joelinton as a player in the mould Liverpool needed because he can drive from midfield, he can head the ball, very good technically, and he has got a bit of pace about him as well,” he told TalkSport.
Newcastle’s Joelinton for Liverpool
Of course, every discussion on Hamann should start with Jurgen Klopp’s take on the pundit. And if that doesn’t do enough, there’s always his take that Thiago isn’t good enough for Liverpool and shouldn’t be in the Reds’ midfield.
So basically, don’t trust his judgement. And that’s not to say that Joelinton would be bad for Liverpool but we’d hardly have him down as a player the Reds need. Or even as the archetype player for their next signing.

That archetype is unquestionably Bellingham – a player Hamann doesn’t feel is worth the risk. The teenager is already capable of just about everything you’d want from a midfielder. He’s athletic, he’s intelligent, he’s versatile and he’s young enough to learn whatever you want to teach him.
That’s the player Liverpool need. Joelinton, who has been a revelation at Newcastle since converting to midfield, is a couple of levels beneath what the Reds want right now. With all due respect.
