Fabrizio Romano delivered a transfer update on Wednesday that included talk about Cody Gakpo’s Liverpool contract.
Cody Gakpo should be on his way to Liverpool. That’s the talk from absolutely everywhere – including PSV Eindhoven themselves.
Fabrizio Romano moved to offer an update of his own on Wednesday. He took to his YouTube channel, sharing details of Gakpo to Liverpool. Most interestingly, he talked about the player’s planned contract.
“Cody Gakpo will have his medical this week with Liverpool,” said Romano. “If everything goes as planned, the first part of the medical is on Wednesday and then signed and announced.

“Contract will be until June 2028, so six-year deal – the same as Darwin Nunez.”
Cody Gakpo’s Liverpool contract
You can see the future at Liverpool, then. Both Gakpo and Nunez tied down to long-term deals of the same length. The pair should play integral roles at Anfield for the next six years.
Which is a long, long time in football. We’re assuming both click into place and thrive, which Liverpool are clearly assuming similarly. But it’s worth remembering that Jurgen Klopp’s contract doesn’t even extend that long.
They’re not just here to be part of this successful side, then, but to transition Liverpool into their next era. Both will hopefully be vital in doing just that, given they’ll still only be 30 when the contracts end.

And that’s assuming there aren’t more contracts on the way. Liverpool like to offer pay-bumps along the way for good performances and both Gakpo and Nunez will be in line for them.
Overall, though, we’re just excited. Everyone can see the enormous potential in Nunez and Gakpo boasts similar quality. Clicking them both into place – especially with Ibrahima Konaté and Trent Alexander-Arnold being the same age – should guarantee another elite first-team in three or four years.
Their primes will all coincide and Liverpool have them locked down for it.
