PSV Eindhoven have confirmed an agreement with Liverpool for Cody Gakpo. The player is on his way to Anfield.

PSV Eindhoven confirmed on Instagram this evening that Cody Gakpo will sign for Liverpool. They have an agreement with the Reds for their star player.

“PSV and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo,” they wrote this evening.

“The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.”

This comes after a series of reports tonight that Liverpool would sign the player. The Times and the Athletic were among those claiming there was an agreement close. We doubt they thought it was this close.

Liverpool weren’t actually considered to be leading this race, with Manchester United instead tipped to get the player. As recently as today, in fact, Fabrizio Romano was saying they were frontrunners.

Instead, the Reds have jumped in to get the 23-year-old. What a Christmas present that is.

Liverpool have Cody Gakpo agreement

Liverpool will sign Cody Gakpo, then. We honestly didn’t see it coming but it does make sense.

After all, both Diogo Jota and Luis Díaz are out for a while. Now Liverpool will have another fantastic option on the left wing – and a player who has just shown he can play through the middle, too.

Gakpo boasts a sensational record with PSV, having won Dutch Footballer of the Year last season. He’s followed that up with nine goals and 12 assists in 14 Eredivisie games this season. Then came a World Cup where Louis van Gaal changed his position to a central one – and he thrived.

This should excite every single Liverpool fan. A world-class attack just got stronger and we can’t wait to see what Gakpo can do.
