Jurgen Klopp took the time to name-drop Bobby Clark after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa. The boss is clearly excited about the kid.

Jurgen Klopp made some brave decisions on Boxing Day as he threw on teenagers against Aston Villa. The Liverpool boss put Stefan Bajcetic on despite holding just a one-goal lead away from home.

Bajcetic certainly repaid that faith as he bagged Liverpool’s third – and that prompted another youngster getting on. Ben Doak, only 17, got some minutes and managed to impress. With that, two players who have been playing Under 18 football at times this season played in the Premier League.

And there’s more to come, clearly. Klopp talked about the pair after the game with Amazon Prime Video and took the time to mention one other who didn’t play.

“We brought on Ben Doak and we see in the first situation how ‘cheeky’ he is and we have others in the background,” said Klopp. “Bobby Clark, another famous name in England, and the kid is a really good player as well.

“So the future is bright.”

We know Klopp rates Clark highly, of course, as he has used him here and there this season. It was nice of him to make sure the teenager is still mentioned in the same breath as Bajcetic and Doak, though.

Those three do feel like the next kids to really make a name for themselves. They’ve continuously impressed, too, with Bajcetic’s goal here and Clark getting a fantastic assist against AC Milan the other week.

Doak, of course, is impressive every single time he gets on a pitch.

And so this trio should follow in the footsteps of Harvey Elliott, even if Elliott never really featured at youth level for Liverpool. But with him and Fabio Carvalho playing as youngsters in this squad, the first-team path is clearly there.
