Alisson Becker is our pick for the best Liverpool player of 2022. The Brazilian kept up his world-class best when others struggled to.
2022 has been a strange year for Liverpool. It started with hopes of the Quadruple – hopes that were so close to reality. The Reds were three goals away from winning absolutely everything last season.
The new season saw a dramatic drop-off in form, however. Liverpool have struggled badly in the Premier League and already look out of the race. Virtually no one managed to maintain their incredible standards of the previous season – but a couple did.
Luis Díaz deserves a shout-out for that. He arrived to kick-off 2022 and immediately forced his way into the starting XI. He had a good start to this campaign, too, only for an injury to rule him out of the final two months.
That injury just keeps him from being our pick for Liverpool’s star of 2022. Instead, that goes to Alisson Becker.
Alisson Becker: the best Liverpool player of 2022
Liverpool have been poor for the most part this season – but we hate to think where they’d be without Alisson. He’s been at his sensational best, both with the ball and without. Some of his saves have directly won the Reds points where they really shouldn’t have had them.
In fact, it’s reached the point where Andy Robertson believes the rest of the team is letting Alisson down. He’s been the best in the world, says the Scot, only for Liverpool to leave him exposed.
“I think Ali’s the best in the world for sure in what he does,” Robertson told Liverpoolfc.com. “We’ve all probably let him down this season in that he’s faced too many shots, he’s had to be making too many saves.”

And that about sums it up. Alisson has earned praise from all corners this season – including from opponents. Gary Neville has labelled him ‘outstanding’, while Garth Crooks puts him in the world’s top 5 goalkeepers.
We’d go further than that – Alisson is the best on the planet. No one else matches his ability with the ball with world-class shot-stopping.
He was magnificent as Liverpool chased the treble and he’s been just as good while the team struggled for form. Alisson is consistently world-class and is perhaps the only Reds who has been able to say that this year.
