Brighton player Adam Webster found praise for Alisson Becker after his side’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Anfield. The Brazilian kept the Reds in it.
Alisson Becker was one of only two Liverpool players who came away with genuine credit after Saturday afternoon. The Reds hosted Brighton at Anfield but fell behind to two quick goals.
A fightback eventually got Liverpool in front but they couldn’t hold onto their lead. Brighton and Leandro Trossard got a third, splitting the points.
Roberto Firmino undoubtedly gets credit for his two goals. Liverpool suffer an embarrassment if not for him. But despite conceding three times, Alisson also deserves plenty of praise.
He was the one player picked out by Brighton’s Adam Webster after the game.
“We showed great character to stay in the game,” Webster told Brighton’s website. “We showed that and created several opportunities. Alisson has made some good saves and the boys showed great spirit to fight back.”

Liverpool have conceded goals at an alarming rate this season. They essentially give up the first goal in every game – there have only been a couple where that’s not the case.
For a team that conceded the fewest in the Premier League in 2019, 2020 and 2022, that’s alarming. And yet, Alisson has a genuine case for being Liverpool’s most important player this season.
That’s an incredibly bad sign, of course. Even with a goalkeeper in wonderful form, Liverpool are leaking goals like a lower-midtable side. You hate to think what would happen should he pick up an injury right now.
So on the one side, we should all pile the praise on Alisson. He’s saving Liverpool right now, or at least giving them a chance of correcting their many, many mistakes.
It would be nice if the Reds weren’t reliant on their goalkeeper to keep teams to ‘only’ three goals at Anfield, though.
