‘Even nicer guy’: 19-year-old player says ‘unbelievable’ Liverpool star is an inspiration

Harvey Elliott believes Mohamed Salah is an inspiration. The Liverpool youngster clearly holds his teammate in the highest regard.

Harvey Elliott named some inspirations this week as he talked to the Mirror. Jurgen Klopp was one – and you can’t understate just how highly Elliott thinks of the Liverpool boss.

Steven Gerrard was another. The Liverpool legend was Elliott’s idol growing up and the respect remains even after meeting him several times.

The third name Elliott talks about is a current teammate – Mohamed Salah.

“Salah is an unbelievable player and even nicer guy,” says Elliott. “So just to have him around me and giving me pointers on where I can improve on my game has helped me out a lot in the seasons that I’ve been at Liverpool.”

It’s wonderful to see such respect there between two generations of Liverpool players. Elliott, after all, is in line to be the star of this side once Salah winds down.

For now, though, the Egyptian is at the top of Liverpool. He’s the player setting standards on and off the pitch, with this hardly being the first time Elliott has name-dropped all Salah does for him.

And what more can you ask for, really? Liverpool are hoping to develop Elliott into one of the world’s best players. Already having one of the world’s best players is a magnificent way to help that along.

With so many following Elliott in that regard – Fabio Carvalho, Stefan Bajcetic, Ben Doak etc. – Liverpool’s current stars have an important role to play. The next generation at the club should be inspired by the current one.

Fortunately, with Elliott at least, that’s the case and we should only see it more and more over the course of the season. The future is in good hands.
