On-loan Liverpool player Sepp van den Berg says his current injury leaves him ‘a little scared’. The defender is at Schalke this season.
Sepp van den Berg started the season well with Schalke 04 this season – another productive loan deal, it seemed. However, a bad injury in October halted everything, leaving the Dutchman on the sidelines for months with ankle ligament damage.
Van den Berg has now opened up on the extent of that injury. The 21-year-old says it scares him a little.
“People say it looked bad,” said Van den Berg, per Revier Sport. “But I’m trying to forget that. If I thought about it too much, I might get a little scared of it happening again.

“I couldn’t even realize what happened at first. Sure, my ankle was swollen and looking bad, but I felt like I could get back into training soon. Mentally, I hadn’t flipped the switch yet.
“Basically, after the operation, I lost all my muscle strength in my left leg. And I have to build up those muscles again. I’m currently doing that. It’s all about the basics. But when I’m back on the pitch with the boys, I want to be better than before.”
Sepp van den Berg on his injury
Revier Sport claim Van den Berg will be back training in early January ‘at the earliest’. Honestly, that’s not too bad – it initially sounded as though the player’s season was at risk.
And that would have been a massive shame. Van den Berg is an outstanding young talent and one who is starting to build a great reputation. His 18 months with Preston North End went brilliantly, after all, earning him a shot in the Bundesliga.

We’d hate to see that momentum halted. Hopefully, Van den Berg can get back playing because we honestly feel he has a future at Liverpool.
All he needs is a bit more luck.
