AC Milan are already considering the future of Divock Origi, according to reports. He joined from Liverpool just this year.

This comes from CalcioMercato. They claim that AC Milan could look to sell Divock Origi in 2023.

It would be viewed as a good economic move, given the Belgian arrived on a free transfer in the summer. Origi’s contract with Liverpool had expired and Milan pushed hard to sign him.

But things aren’t working out. Origi is missing plenty of games through injury – and that’s about to hurt Milan. Olivier Giroud won’t be able to play much in January and they desperately need Origi fit. Instead, he’s on the sidelines and they’ll have to cope without him.

That lack of reliability could see them cash-in come the end of the season. That’s perhaps the only saving grace for the striker – that they wouldn’t sell in January. Origi still has a few months to change their mind, then.

Divock Origi future in doubt at Milan

Admittedly, this isn’t the greatest shock. Origi is a legend at Liverpool but his fitness record has always been difficult to deal with. Despite his talent, the Belgian struggles to get on the pitch.

And it was clear that Milan saw the same problem by mid-October. Origi had barely featured by then and hadn’t scored a goal. While he’s got a few now, the injuries have inevitably returned.

It’s a massive shame as we hoped this would be the move that allowed Origi to truly show what he’s capable of. There’s a reason Jurgen Klopp has called him ‘exceptional’ in the past – the talent is there to be a fantastic striker.

We’ll cross our fingers that Origi can get over his injuries and shine in the second half of the season, then. He deserves a proper spotlight after so many years on the bench at Liverpool.
