Liverpool are ‘definitely’ interested in Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, according to journalist Dean Jones on GiveMeSport.

As per Jeunes Footeux, both the Reds and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old in January.

Yorkshire Live claim that although the Norway international is relaxed about his future, he would be interested in a move back to the Premier League.

Having arrived at Bramall Lane in 2020 for £22m, Berge reportedly has a £35m release clause in his contract with the Blades.

“There’s definitely interest here and there’s been an interest for a long, long time,” Jones said.

“Liverpool have looked at this in the past, but he got a pretty serious injury and that was around the time when they probably had the most interest in him.”

Liverpool need midfielders

Jurgen Klopp is in desperate need of midfield reinforcements in the winter window.

The Reds are often riddled with injuries in the middle of the park, and the side have become over-reliant on a core set of players, who also need to rest.

With this in mind, Berge would be a solid addition to the squad. At just 24-years-old, he is still a relatively young prospect. Furthermore, he already has Premier League experience, having played in the top-flight during the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons.

The defensive midfielder has often been linked with moves away from Sheffield United, but none have come to fruition. Therefore, potentially available for less than his £35m release clause, this could be a realistic target for the Reds in January.

Klopp has previously claimed Berge is a ‘very interesting player’, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Norwegian at Anfield in the future.
