Harvey Elliott has shaken off a minor injury concern to be ready for today’s friendly against AC Milan.

That’s according to the Liverpool Echo, who claim that the 19-year-old has already returned to full training in Dubai.

Elliott had to be taken off less than half an hour into Liverpool’s 3-1 loss against Lyon on Sunday. But updates have since been positive, with the teenager said to be absolutely fine.

As a result, Elliott will reportedly ‘play a part’ in today’s clash with the Italian Champions. Good news.

More to come from Elliott

Jurgen Klopp must have been worried seeing Elliott forced from the pitch at the weekend. As per the Echo, the youngster was seen ‘shaking his head’ while going off. Never a good sign.

The England U21 star has been vital to Liverpool this season, papering over availability issues in the midfield and forward line.

Another injury as he’s finally nailed down a place in the team would have gutting for both Elliott and the manager.

So, Klopp will breathe a sigh of relief that his golden boy is back. Jurgen has been a huge fan of Harvey’s ever since he arrived at the club in 2019.

At times, that has felt ever so slightly over the top from Klopp. Yes, Elliott is a great talent and has made big strides for his age. But when you consider the fact that he’s actually older than someone like Jude Bellingham, maybe we should be seeing a little more from him.

It’s probably unfair to compare any 19-year-old to Bellingham. Still, when you’re being called ‘magnificent’ by the likes of John Aldridge, expectations are bound to be high.

As players return from injury and the Liverpool squad starts to settle better into the season, that should take the pressure off Elliott. Without the need to be a starter every week, he’ll hopefully be able to play with a bit more freedom.

Hopefully that can start with a good showing today against Milan. It’s only a friendly, but after the Lyon loss and Manchester City now less than a week away, we need to see some positive signs. From Liverpool, and from Elliott.
