The two Premier League clubs are touted with interest in Fiorentina and Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat, who has been extremely impressive at the World Cup.

It is said that it is unclear whether Spurs will sign a midfielder in January, whereas the Merseyside outfit are more likely to do so.

Jurgen Klopp’s scouts have reportedly been amazed by Amrabat out in Qatar, meaning it is entirely possible that the club make a move to sign him next month.

Although Liverpool’s interest in Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is widely reported, that transfer would be completed in the summer – if it comes to fruition at all.

However, Corriere dello Sport have reported that Klopp has ‘long since made a request to the board’ to sign a player just like Amrabat, and especially so in the winter window.

At the moment, Fabinho is the only senior player at Liverpool able to excel in the defensive midfield position. As a result, the Reds have been looking to add competition to the mix. This has been made all the more important with the evident need to rotate the Brazilian, who has looked fatigued at times this season.

Therefore, the Morocco international would be the ideal addition, as he has all the characteristics needed to fulfil the role.

With great physicality and clever positioning, the 26-year-old has demonstrated at the World Cup that he should be playing at the highest level. Fiorentina cannot offer him Champions League football, whereas Liverpool can.

Consequently, there is optimism that Julian Ward can get a deal done for Amrabat in January.
