‘Bit of a doughnut’: Joe Gomez claims Liverpool player is so entertaining that ‘you can’t even knock’ him

Liverpool centre-back Joe Gomez has claimed left-back Andy Robertson is such good fun during training.

Speaking with the Reds’ official site in an interview out in Dubai, the 25-year-old admitted the Scotsman can be a ‘bit of a doughnut’ when he wants to be – but he is always there to lift the spirits amongst the camp.

When questioned about which players are good to have around and which players are bad to have around in a training camp, Gomez replied: “To be fair, Robbo is good fun, you can’t even knock it.

“He knows when to just let it be and when to be a bit of a doughnut.

“But I don’t know, I can’t say anyone grinds my gears because it would take a lot to wind me up.

“So, I think it’s pretty chilled. It’s a good balance.”

Gomez appreciates Robertson’s humour

Illustrated in recent years, Robertson has been absolutely crucial to the camaraderie that ties the Liverpool squad together.

This has always been the case, too, as that close-knit friendship is often evident on the pitch.

This is what has driven Jurgen Klopp’s side to such success in recent times, and it continues to be a foundation the coaching staff base their teachings upon.

At 28-years-old, Robertson is now one of the most senior players in the squad. He has amassed 240 appearances for the Reds, and he sure has a lot of life left in the tank.

Whilst Jordan Henderson and James Milner are the obvious leaders on the pitch, the Scotland captain is also an extremely important part of the leadership team at Anfield.

This sort of fun behind the scenes is certainly undervalued when it comes to team spirit, so Robertson has been pivotal when it comes to Liverpool’s success.
