Steven Gerrard has hailed the performances of Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson at the ongoing World Cup.
Henderson has been excellent for England as they look ahead to a quarter final with France. And speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Gerrard said the Reds skipper had ‘shut a few people up.’
“Obviously being an England fan I’m following England and Jordan from a personal point of view. I think he’s been immaculate, both on and off the pitch. His last performance he was obviously Man of the Match, very well deserved, and he shut a few critics up that for some reason seem to point fingers at Jordan,” said the Liverpool icon.
“Being a midfielder, being around Jordan on the daily basis, to see the sacrifices, his dedication and what he puts into his own preparation, the hard work that he puts in, I’m not surprised that he’s putting in this level of performance and I’m delighted for him.
“But it seems as if a lot of people outside the LFC family don’t need an invite to point a finger towards him so I’m delighted that he has shut a few up.”

Henderson impressing on the world stage
Obviously, Gerrard is a little biased when it comes to evaluating Henderson. Not only did he play with the 32-year-old for Liverpool and England, Hendo also succeeded him as Reds captain.
As a result, it’s only normal that Stevie would feel protective over his former teammate.
However, this isn’t one of those occasions where you feel obliged to add a pinch of salt. Henderson really has been excellent in Qatar.
With a manager as stubborn as Gareth Southgate, it isn’t easy to win your place back once jettisoned from the side. But Hendo has managed to do just that.
Having started the last two games, he now looks set to be in the line up for tomorrow’s massive quarter final against France.
It won’t all be plain sailing for Henderson, though. He only ever seems to be one poor pass away from a pile-on these days. Sometimes it feels like he has to work twice as hard as any other player to win over the watching public.
Luckily, working twice as hard as anyone else comes in the Liverpool midfielder’s nature. More of the same tomorrow, Hendo!
