Liverpool youngster Layton Stewart is hoping to use the Reds’ training camp out in Dubai to learn from Jurgen Klopp’s first-team forwards as much as possible.
Speaking with the Merseyside club’s official site during an interview, the 20-year-old spoke of his opportunity to soak up the experience of training day-in and day-out with the senior squad.
“I think the last few days have been good just getting used to the weather and getting the rust off after a couple of weeks and getting used to the ball again,” Stewart said.
“I think it’s a big opportunity for me to learn off the likes of Mo [Salah], Bobby [Firmino] and [Luis] Diaz. They’re players who play in my position, so I’m going to take as much as I can off them and try to put it into my game.
“It’s a great experience for us to come out here with the first team. Obviously, there’s quite a few of us so we know each other and then we’re coming around the first team and trying to learn off them.
“The coaches have spoken about it – coming together, being around each other and doing things together.”
Stewart hopes to learn from Salah
The centre-forward has enjoyed an emphatic season this term, having bagged six goals and an assist in eight Premier League 2 games.
After impressing for the U21’s, Stewart consequently earned his first-team debut. He played 66 minutes against Derby County in the Carabao Cup last month at Anfield.
Having gained a good level of experience in recent times, this training camp has come at the perfect time for the youngster.
If he continues to develop at his current rate, opportunities will become far more frequent with the senior team.
He may then earn a loan move to the Championship, following in the footsteps of Tyler Morton – who is currently excelling at Blackburn Rovers.
