Youri Tielemans can help Liverpool sign Jude Bellingham. The Reds are reportedly desperate to sign the latter.

Reports that Liverpool want Jude Bellingham continue to grow. Every day there’s something new and it seems the Reds will go all-out to get their man.

That includes adapting their transfer process for Bellingham. The Daily Mail claimed this week that Liverpool’s deal for Arthur Melo was specifically with the Englishman in mind. The Reds didn’t want to commit to anything long-term as it might jeopardise a deal for Bellingham, either by taking up transfer funds or space in the squad.

A loan move for Arthur, then, gave Liverpool a player for the season but no longer. Then Bellingham could arrive – simple. Of course, Arthur’s injury made that plan look awful in hindsight.

That kind of strategy must persist. Liverpool will essentially require all of their transfer funds to sign Bellingham but they also need more than one midfielder. Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are all out of contract next year, after all.

We recently wrote how Konrad Laimer could be an option as a free transfer from RB Leipzig. Sign him without a fee and the funds are there for Bellingham. However, it appears he’s now off to Bayern Munich.

But maybe there’s someone else.

Liverpool can sign Youri Tielemans

According to the Leicester Mercury, Youri Tielemans won’t move this winter. Leicester don’t wish to sell, which means potentially losing him on a free transfer at the end of the contract this summer.

We think Liverpool should consider rivalling Arsenal here. Tielemans could come in as a player in his prime years – something the Reds lack – and with experience in the Premier League. He’s a player with his fair share of brilliant moments in England over the last few years, as well as someone Brendan Rodgers feels is ‘wonderful to work with’.

As the sole midfield signing, we’d be underwhelmed. As an option alongside Bellingham? Tielemans could be ideal.

We felt Liverpool should have considered moving for the Belgian at the end of the summer window. That didn’t happen, of course, but now he’s be able to move without a transfer fee. And that could be exactly what the Reds need to construct their next great midfield.
