Liverpool must sign Konrad Laimer if they want to complete a dream midfield. It’s the only realistic way the Reds get what they want.
Sport Bild claims Liverpool are still negotiating for Konrad Laimer. The Austrian midfielder has already rejected Chelsea but has his eyes on a move to Bayern Munich. He does play in the Bundesliga, after all.
Laimer is out of contract in June, making his transfer a hot one. Teams can offer him a pre-contract from January 1st and negotiations will likely heat up between now and then.
This will be a difficult one. Beating Bayern is struggle for any transfer, let alone when the player already has his eyes there. But if Liverpool want to complete a dream midfield in 2023, they must find a way to get Laimer to Anfield.
Liverpool must sign Konrad Laimer
Liverpool have a lot of work to do in midfield. They’ve looked sluggish this year, for one, and desperately need a refresh. There’s a big gap there, too – from inexperienced talent like Harvey Elliott to players moving past their prime in Thiago and Jordan Henderson.
25-year-old Laimer would fix that. He could come in as a player in his prime years and who should improve a little over the next couple.
But the big draw here is that Laimer wouldn’t cost a transfer fee. Liverpool don’t just need a refresh but they’ll likely need a few players. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner are all out of contract next year, with little suggestion that they’ll get new deals.
Thus Laimer could be signed with money that’s easily available. His wages could eat into what’s already there, meaning not much investment is necessary.

That’s particularly important if Liverpool want multiple midfielders. If they plan on signing Jude Bellingham or Enzo Fernández or whoever they have eyes on, Laimer would allow for an easy pairing.
Liverpool could get two elite midfielders for one transfer fee and with a chunk of available wage budget.
Above all, though, Laimer is just a fantastic player. Julian Nagelsmann once called him a ‘ball-winning machine’ and we rate him as the best pressing-midfielder in Europe.
Getting that on a free transfer would be remarkable for many reasons and allow Liverpool to complete a dream midfield.
