Journalist Christian Falk has shared what Liverpool would pay for Jude Bellingham. Honestly, they’re nowhere near.
Christian Falk talked with The Anfield Wrap on Wednesday, discussing Liverpool’s interest in Jude Bellingham. That interest isn’t exactly a secret, of course, but it’s complicated.
Falk believe Bellingham would want to move to Liverpool. In fact, he’d choose them over anyone else right now. But you can probably guess the problem.
“The only problem could be money,” explained Falk. “This is the thing – I don’t know how far Liverpool are in this case with [Borussia] Dortmund.
“This will be an advantage for [Manchester] City, for Chelsea, who are also in the race. But we heard clearly – if Bellingham can decide it, it’s Liverpool.”
Falk then went on to explain just how big ‘the problem’ truly is. If he’s right, Liverpool aren’t anywhere near Dortmund’s asking price for their prized asset.
“He has no clause [in his contract],” said Falk. “So €150m is at the moment, the point. I think that’s about £130m, I guess.
“And I heard Liverpool would pay, at the moment, €100m – which is about 86m in sterling. So I’m not sure if they find a solution so early.
“Perhaps the Fenway group is selling the club, the new owner makes a present to supporters – then it would be easier!”
What Liverpool would pay for Jude Bellingham
Falk must be wrong here, surely? Because if Liverpool’s maximum price here is genuinely £86m, we’re not sure why they’re bothering with the pursuit.
Dortmund simply won’t accept that. It’s about two-thirds of what they could get elsewhere – we can’t imagine City or Paris Saint-Germain would struggle to beat that price. City have paid more than that before, of course, and for a player not as good as Bellingham.
We’ll just hope it’s a negotiation tactic, then. Bellingham is about as good as it gets for Liverpool but if they’re planning on bidding £86m, they should look elsewhere and stop wasting time.
