Here are three reasons why Liverpool should sign Jude Bellingham. Jurgen Klopp could form the perfect midfield trio.
There is an awful lot of talk that Liverpool want to sign Jude Bellingham. It’s essentially an open secret at this point and calling it a ‘secret’ might be pushing it.
The Daily Mail are merely the latest outlet reporting it. They claimed earlier today that FSG will do all they can to bring the Borussia Dortmund star to Anfield. The Athletic suggest it could cost £130m to do so.
Is he worth it, though? Absolutely. And here are three reasons why.
Why Liverpool should sign Jude Bellingham
The perfect midfield
Above all, Bellingham is simply a perfect fit. Jurgen Klopp likes to play with a midfield three with a holding player and then two versatile support players who can change-up their game on the fly. There’s no finer example than Fabinho, Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson.
Bellingham couldn’t fit better in a trio like that. He can do it all – pressing hard, running with the ball, making himself an option. All of the functional things Liverpool want in there, he can do and to a very high level.
Even better, Bellingham can play on either the left or the right of a midfield three. He’s flexible, versatile, and the exact kind of player Liverpool want. They’re not after a tough-tackling midfielder or a playmaking specialist – they’re after someone who can do a bit of everything. That is Bellingham.
Klopp knows Fabinho is ideal in the holding role and having Bellingham gives him another ideal player in the trio. He’d be one away – and might even already have it in Harvey Elliott.
The future
Bellingham is still only 19. It’s ridiculous, given the level he’s at, but this is a signing for the future above all. That £130m could end up delivering over a decade of football, then.
And Liverpool need something like that. Henderson and Thiago are both beyond 30 and injury prone. Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner are all out of contract in the summer. Bellingham would deliver a clear future that the Reds desperately need right now.

And to top it off, he’d qualify as homegrown in the squad, allowing for flexibility going forward. Locking that down is incredibly important for any major club.
The positivity
Liverpool could use the boost that signing Bellingham would bring. We don’t want to call it a ‘statement’ as it won’t affect other clubs as that suggests. It’s more about building the confidence and faith within the club that Anfield is the place to be.
Signing Bellingham would do just that. As the club goes through a little kick to the ego with some poor form this season, they could sign an instant reminder of how big Liverpool are. And on top of it, sign a player with enough quality to carry that confidence through the years.
It’s like having Steven Gerrard – a player so good that you know you can compete with anyone simply because you have them. Bellingham would bring that and it’s well worth £130m.
