The Brazilian media raved about Alisson Becker after his performance against South Korea at the World Cup last night. The Liverpool goalkeeper was outstanding.

Brazil hammered South Korea on Monday evening to qualify for the World Cup quarter-finals. The game finished 4-1 but was over as a contest about 15 minutes in – the Brazilians were up by four within 36 minutes.

Despite the result, Alisson Becker did still manage to catch the eye. He conceded his first goal of the tournament here but even more remarkably, also made his first saves in Qatar.

And what saves they were. Alisson kept South Korea out as well as he could, meeting some great efforts with even better stops. One first-half save was absolutely fantastic.

His performance earned him all sorts of praise out of Brazil. Their national media lined up to hail the goalkeeper as he showed himself to be arguably the best in the world.

UOL didn’t have too much to say about Alisson, reserving just a couple of lines for him. They do point out how he ‘performed two miracles’, though, as he kept out Paik Seung-Ho.

GZH gave Alisson a score – 7.5 out of 10. It seems low, given they call his performance ‘great’, his saves ‘beautiful’ and predict that Hwang Hee-Chan will see the goalkeeper in his dreams tonight. It’s worth mentioning that only Neymar and Richarlison scored higher, though (8 out of 10 each).

Globo gave Alisson an 8 out of 10, a score the public agreed with. Only Vinicius Jr managed to score higher (8.5). They again use the word ‘beautiful’ to describe his saves, while calling his first-half stop ‘technically perfect’.

There’s a little selection of the praise, then, as Alisson continues to impress. This was really the first time he’s had to at the World Cup but he proved why he’s Brazil’s no.1.

And after his displays for Liverpool this season, we don’t see how anyone else can claim to be the best in the world right now.
