‘When you need it’: Luis Garcia loved what £67m Liverpool player did at the World Cup today

Alisson Becker earned praise for an outstanding save for Brazil at the World Cup today. The favourites were phenomenal.

Brazil tore South Korea to shreds on Monday as they qualified for the World Cup quarter finals. But that’s not to say that Alisson Becker didn’t have to do anything.

The Liverpool goalkeeper had a quiet time in goal and, admittedly, didn’t have much of an effect on the result. He managed to offer a reminder of what he can do, though.

Alisson produced an outstanding first-half save that stopped South Korea from finding a way back into the game. A long-range strike flew towards the top corner but the goalkeeper flew across to tip it over.

Former Liverpool star Luis Garcia took to Twitter to applaud the moment from the Reds’ £67m man – along with thousands of others. Garcia was sure to point out just how ridiculous this Brazil squad is, though.

“Having a Keeper that shows up when need it,” he wrote on Twitter. “Brasil’s got talent up front, fight in the middle and experience at the back and… Alisson Becker!!”

Alisson save at the World Cup

It really is quite ridiculous that Brazil are this good. They’ve got a phenomenal attack led my one of the world’s absolute best in Neymar. They’ve got a midfield so good that Fabinho can’t get in it. Their defence is rock-solid, too.

And then there’s Alisson.

Even if you can somehow withstand the onslaught and break through on goal, there’s the world’s best waiting to keep you out. Here was pure evidence of that. South Korea struggled to create anything in this one and when they finally managed a moment of quality, it still wasn’t enough to beat Alisson.

There are a few Liverpool players who could go on to lift the trophy later this month. Alisson, though, surely stands a better chance than any.
