A Saudi-Qatari partnership is drafting a £4billion offer to Fenway Sports Group for a full takeover of Liverpool FC.

According to Jordan-based publication Albawaba, former Saudi Arabia international Saeed Al-Owairan has publicised plans for a possible Saudi-Qatari combined offer for the Reds.

Taking to the Egyptian programme Remontada, Albawaba claimed that Owairan had confirmed the agreement of a partnership between the two Middle-Eastern countries.

This follows previous reports that Saudi and Qatari consortiums had held talks with FSG over a proposed takeover of the club.

However, further details of the coalition were excluded from Albawaba’s news, but reports suggest the offer likely to be made would be in excess of £4bn.

This comes despite reports in John W. Henry’s own newspaper, the Boston Globe, which claimed FSG are now leaning towards a partial sale of Liverpool – rather than a full takeover.

This news may throw plans of a partial sale into the air. This idea could have been extremely beneficial for the club, as FSG were reportedly looking to raise money for ‘player acquisition and capital improvements.’

This would have provided a cash injection into the Reds, which could have been utilised in the transfer window.

With the current owners’ reluctance to continually dip into the transfer market, a new investor into the club would have provided those much-needed funds to help alleviate Jurgen Klopp’s aging squad woes.

Although there is the possibility of an endless transfer budget with a full takeover, a consortium-led buyer would cause outrage on Merseyside due to the sports-washing links that accompany such investors.

Therefore, fans would prefer to see a minority stake in the club sold over this, as it would provide them with what they want, money, without the accompanying baggage.
