FSG’s plan for new investment at Liverpool is a direct attempt to give Jurgen Klopp extra funds in the transfer market.
That’s according to The Times, who confirm yesterday’s news that the Liverpool owners are now unlikely to make a full sale of the club.
Instead, FSG will reportedly look to raise money for ‘player acquisition and capital improvements.’ The first part of that is pretty self-explanatory and should give Klopp more cash to play with.
Interestingly, a further reason is also given for the owner’s new plan. It’s claimed that it has come as a result of Liverpool no longer having saleable assets in the playing squad.
In the past, the Reds have operated on a strict ‘sell to buy’ policy. However, with few quality fringe players to offload, Liverpool now reportedly need a different way to maintain FSG’s ‘self-sustaining’ ownership.

Best of both worlds for Liverpool
This is obviously potentially good news for Liverpool. It may not provide extra funds in the way that new ownership would, perhaps. But it should still give them a cash boost in the window.
Arguably, this approach leaves Liverpool with a ‘best of both worlds’ scenario. The club isn’t sold to questionable owners who tear up everything the institution stands for, that’s a positive. Meanwhile, the squad still gets the investment it badly needs. Another positive.
In theory, at least, this looks like a good place for the Reds to be in.
However, some Liverpool fans will no doubt be a little suspicious of such claims from FSG. Supporters have unfortunately become used to suggestions that significant investment in the squad is nigh.

More often than not, these claims haven’t come to fruition. So, until evidence is seen that extra money is being put into the playing staff, some fans will, understandably, remain sceptical.
Fortunately for FSG, they have the perfect chance to put their money where their mouth is in January.
With the midfield in need of upgrading, they have to dip into the market. Top target Jude Bellingham is unlikely to be available in the New Year but regardless, Liverpool should be active.
New investors are still to be finalised, it must be said. Should they be found before January, Liverpool will have no excuses for not stumping up in the winter window.
