Liverpool owners FSG are now ‘leaning toward’ a mere partial sale of the club, instead of a full takeover.
The Reds have been nominally up for sale since last month, with the rumour mill going into overdrive over a potential sale. However, according to the Boston Globe, the Liverpool owners are now ‘more likely’ to simply secure new investors.
To that end, FSG reportedly remain ‘engaged in discussions’ with potential partners. This is said to consist of an ‘array of suitors.’
One of the interested parties is said to be from North America, but no further details of this are given. What is reported though, is that any new investors must be ‘philosophically aligned’ to FSG’s ‘fiscal tenets and team-building philosophies.’

It’s claimed that John Henry and co are still ‘keeping their ears open’ to a full takeover but are yet to receive an offer that captures their attention. Furthermore, the Reds bosses are said to be ‘unsure’ over whether they ever will.
FSG look to end the distraction, but some won’t be happy
This will be a big blow to those hoping for FSG to finally part ways with Liverpool after 12 years of control.
For some portions of the fanbase, the news of a potential sale was like Christmas coming early. They’ll no doubt be disappointed by these developments. For others, this will be welcome news of stability and continuation.
In reality, as ever, it’s probably somewhere down the middle. There’s little question that Liverpool could do with some fresh thinking injected into the club.
But whether or not they need to castaway what has brought them so much success recently is up for debate.

Perhaps it’s better for the club if FSG remain in control, whilst also entertaining some new ideas from investors. Over time, maybe those investors will become more and more involved.
What is clear though, is that this needs to be sorted pretty quickly. On the back of the resignation of some key behind the scenes figures recently, Liverpool could do with some certainty around the future.
With the team struggling to put together a good string of results on the pitch, the last thing they need is a sale hovering over the club.
Thankfully, it looks as though this distraction is on the way to being put to bed. Some won’t be happy, but at least the focus can return to what’s happening on the pitch.
