Liverpool might have a way to sign Ismael Bennacer in January. The Reds reportedly want the AC Milan midfielder.
TuttoMercatoWeb and Calciomercato both believe Liverpool want Ismael Bennacer. They say Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the Algerian and the Reds will try to get him if contract talks with AC Milan continue to stall.
You can read our initial thoughts on that here.
Bennacer’s contract expires in 2024, making an extension almost necessary for Milan. They’re not in a position where losing him for free is really an option. If he doesn’t renew, then, they’ll probably need to move him on in the summer for a cut-price fee.
Liverpool supposedly want to take advantage of that – but what about January? The Reds could really use Bennacer now, not just for next season. There might be a way to make it happen, too.
Liverpool could sign Ismael Bennacer in January
Calciomercato.it believes Milan already have Bennacer replacements lined up – Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Both are out of contract at Liverpool next summer and will likely leave for free.
But what if the waiting is all pointless here? Liverpool aren’t getting much out of Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain as it is and we imagine they’d be okay with losing the pair early.
In return, perhaps Milan would give up on renewing Bennacer’s contract and enter January talks. It could be a way for both clubs to get their summer business done early and eliminate the uncertainty at both.

Milan get their replacements early. Liverpool get a 24-year-old midfielder labelled ‘world-class’ by his current manager. Someone who could be a long-term piece in the middle.
We think it makes sense. We’re not entirely sure what the financials would need to be but it seems like a way that both clubs can sort things out quite cleanly.
