ITV Sport pundit Ian Wright has reacted to Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold finally getting minutes on the pitch for England at the World Cup.

Taking to Instagram, the 24-year-old posted a series of images of his half-an-hour cameo against Wales last night, captioning the post: “Knockouts baby”.

Players and pundits alike took to the comments to lavish praise on the Scouser, who looked more than comfortable in a Three Lions shirt.

Reds captain and England teammate Jordan Henderson reacted with an applause emoji alongside a flame.

Wright, on the other hand, showered love on the defender, sending six hearts in the comments.

With Henderson playing quite wide out on the right of midfield, the game was calling out for Alexander-Arnold to feature.

Kyle Walker started in Gareth Southgate’s XI, but he offered next to nothing to the side’s attack going forward.

With the 32-year-old Reds skipper offering defensive protection, the match was perfect for the full-back to come in and attack the right flank.

In 33 minutes of play, Alexander-Arnold had a 95% accuracy from 21 passes, including an accurate long ball to feed the front-line in.

This was a much-awaited appearance for the 24-year-old, who has never been truly in favour under Southgate.

At Liverpool, he is appreciated as he should be. However, in an England shirt, the right-back deserves far more respect.
