Liverpool could see their new-look midfield in action at the World Cup tonight, according to reports. It could be something special.

The Telegraph report that England could ring the changes against Wales later today. Intriguingly, they suggest that Jordan Henderson could come into the side to play with Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.

That would be particularly interesting for Liverpool, who are reportedly interested in signing both Bellingham and Rice. The former has had an incredible number of links to the Reds – it’s an open secret that they want him.

Fabrizio Romano reported just the other day that Liverpool had already made contact. They see Bellingham as their main target next year. He’d be a difficult signing, given everyone wants the teenager, but the Reds will do what they can to get him.

The links to Rice are more tentative. There have been light links between the two for years but West Ham United have never looked like selling. 90min are one outlet that claimed earlier this year that Liverpool want Rice.

Now it sounds as though the Hammers could sell. Journalist Matt Law recently told the London Is Blue Podcast that £70m is the price and that there are two Premier League clubs ahead of Chelsea in the running.

Liverpool are one of only two or three clubs that could be ahead of the Blues in a transfer race. It’s speculative, but something seems to be happening there and we’d be shocked if the Reds didn’t have a look.

Liverpool and their new-look midfield

Of course, signing both Bellingham and Rice would be incredibly expensive. The suggestion is that Borussia Dortmund want £130m for Bellingham, meaning this would cost £200m total. Do Liverpool actually have that money?

We’d think ‘no’, but they do need to do something drastic in 2023. The midfield needs a rebuild and signing both Bellingham and Rice would transform the team.

If the two of them perform alongside Henderson tonight, Liverpool may feel even more determined to make it happen.
