RB Leipzig midfielder and reported Liverpool target Konrad Laimer is now on the verge of joining Bayern Munich in the summer, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports reporter claims the 25-year-old has a verbal agreement with the Bundesliga giants, however a medical is yet to take place.
The Austria international is expected to sign a long-term contract at the end of the season, crushing the Reds’ hopes of landing him at Anfield.
As per a previous report from Bild, the Merseyside outfit were in strong contention as a potential suitor. Having ruled out Chelsea, it was between Bayern and Liverpool as to where he would end up. However, it now appears the player has made up his mind.
Liverpool-linked Laimer set to join Bayern
With Jurgen Klopp’s issues in the middle of the park, this news will come as a major blow.
The Reds are desperate to add quality players to the midfield, as the likes of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and possibly even Naby Keita are expected to depart upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of the season.
Available on a pre-contract in January, Laimer would have been a fantastic addition to the Anfield squad.
His tireless work ethic to win the ball back would have improved a somewhat leggy midfield, and at just 25-years-old, he still has many years left to perform at the top level.

However, a Bundesliga star joining up with Bayern does not come as much of a surprise. It’s quite a regular occurrence to see the German giants pinch their rivals’ best players.
Therefore, with the lure of the league champions, the Reds must accept defeat with Laimer.
Instead, they now need to look elsewhere ahead of the January window.
