Real Madrid are serious about signing reported Liverpool transfer target Stanislav Lobotka from Napoli.
The midfielder is having a brilliant season in Naples, leading to talk of a move away from the club. Although Liverpool have been mooted as a possible destination, Foot Mercato report that Carlo Ancelotti now wants the Slovakian at Madrid.
The Italian reportedly sees him as a continued succession plan for Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. At twenty-eight, he isn’t the youngest anymore, but that isn’t said to be an issue for Ancelotti
However, Napoli reportedly won’t sell Lobotka for anything less than £50m. It’s claimed that any sale could even cost as much as £60m.
Lobotka earns himself the spotlight at Napoli
Lobotka has been fantastic for Napoli this season. Coming in as a slightly under the radar signing from Celta Vigo in 2020, he has slowly become a key man for Luciano Spalletti.
With him anchoring the midfield alongside Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa, Napoli have lost just once all season – against Liverpool at Anfield.
That defeat aside, they’re already eight points clear in Serie A and will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League last-16.
As a result, there’s been plenty of interest in one or two of their star performers. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has taken a lot of the headlines, while Victor Osimhen continues to attract attention, too.
But Lobotka has also seen himself thrust into the limelight. Spalletti has been effusive in his praise of his No.68, comparing him to Spanish great Andres Iniesta via taketonews.com.
Obviously, those kinds of displays are only going to drive a player’s price-tag one way. Perhaps once seen as a shrewd solution to Liverpool’s midfield problem, £60m is simply too much for the Reds to pay.
With Madrid’s eyes also on Jude Bellingham, you’d expect it to be too much for them as well. Mind you, given Lobotka’s importance to Napoli, perhaps that was their plan all along.
