Report: Liverpool now interested in signing ‘extraordinary’ talent who ‘plays like Iniesta’

Liverpool are one of a number of Premier League clubs keeping an eye on Napoli midfielder Stanislav Lobtoka.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that the Reds are ‘interested’ in the 27-year-old. However, that interest may prove fruitless, with Lobotka on the verge of signing a new deal in Naples.

The outlet goes as far as saying that the extension has been ‘confirmed,’ with an announcement expected in November.

This may disappoint Liverpool, who will get another viewing of the Slovakian at Anfield on 1st of November. Manchester United and Chelsea are also claimed to be weighing up a move for Lobotka.

Liverpool on the hunt for ‘wild boar’ Lobotka

Given Lobotka’s age, some Liverpool fans may immediately dismiss Lobotka as being not-needed.

It’s a bit of a shame, but whenever the Reds are linked to a player over the age of twenty-five or twenty-six, they’re readily ignored.

This would be a mistake with Lobotka. The former Celta Vigo defensive midfielder has been shining in Serie A this season. With Napoli looking good at the top of the table and flying in the Champions League, he deserves a closer look.

He’s been playing so well in fact, that manager Luciano Spalletti has even compared him to the great Andres Iniesta. In quotes from taketonews.com, the Italian coach likened his No.68 to the legendary Spaniard after a win against Genoa.

“Lobotka looked like Iniesta today, he played an exceptional game,” he gushed. “He brings the team to have the opportunity to attack in the spaces. He gave the ‘there’ to incredible starts. The goal is of a quality. and an extraordinary lucidity. Last year he scored a goal like this in the championship final, tonight he did this percussion several times.

“It seems that you take him, but then he is wild boar in his way of doing, takes the field and you cannot retrieve him.”

As ever, a colourful description from Spalletti. Lobotka would probably prefer the Iniesta comparison to that of the wild boar, but either way, his manager clearly absolutely loves him.

Liverpool are quite clearly in the market for a couple of midfielders this summer. Should Lobotka show his quality at Anfield in a couple of weeks, maybe their interest in him could firm up.
