Report: £26m World Cup star would prefer to sign for Barcelona than Liverpool, it's his dream move

Reported Liverpool transfer target Youssoufa Moukoko is dreaming of a move to Barcelona next summer.

That’s according to 90min, who claim that the 18-year-old has a ‘genuine chance’ of leaving Borussia Dortmund when his contract expires.

This could reportedly be good news for Liverpool, who are said to have been ‘watching Moukoko closely.’ Manchester United are supposedly in the mix too, while Bayern Munich are claimed to have the most ‘notable’ interest.

However, Moukoko could reportedly reject all approaches in favour of joining Barcelona. The German international is said to be a boyhood Barca fan, with the Catalan club ‘aware’ of this information.

Despite this, Moukoko could yet remain in Dortmund, too. The teenager is reportedly yet to finalise his plans and his current club remain ‘hopeful’ of an extension at Signul Iduna Park.

Dortmund losing big money of Moukoko

Moukoko could be one of the steals of next summer. Should he leave Dortmund, his next club should count their lucky stars.

It’s rare to find a player of his gifts at just eighteen. It’s even more rare to snap them up for absolutely nothing.

If Moukoko were on the market at a selling price, it’s easy to see Dortmund asking for £50-£60m for him. At least. With just six months left on his deal, Eurosport report that they may even ask for just over £26m in January.

As he’d be able to negotiate with clubs in the New Year in light of a free transfer, it’s hard to see anyone paying that.

From a business point of view, that isn’t like the German giants. Dortmund are usually so adept at making big profits on young players bought from elsewhere. Now, they look like dropping the ball with one from their own academy.

Bad news for Liverpool?

Unfortunately, this could perhaps have a knock-on effect for Liverpool. One of said big profits is set to be made on Jude Bellingham. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that he’s top of the Reds shopping list this summer.

If they are to lose out on decent money for Moukoko, it’s not unfeasible that they’ll simply tack a little more onto Jude’s asking price. Already reportedly set at around £130m, Liverpool won’t like the sound of that.

They won’t like the sound of Moukoko’s plans here, either. But with next summer still a way away, plans can certainly change. In the meantime, the forward will hope for better in the World Cup, having featured for just two minutes of Germany’s loss to Japan on Wednesday.
