Youssoufa Moukoko could be a dream signing for Liverpool. Reports suggest that Reds are leading the way to sign him.

Spanish outlet Sport suggests that Liverpool leading the chase for Borussia Dortmund’s Youssoufa Moukoko. The striker is out of contract in the summer and the Reds fancy their chances.

They’re not the only ones, of course, but we do expect Liverpool to go all out for Moukoko, if only because his data is fantastic. While limited – only 790 minutes over the last 12 months – all signs point to him being one of the most well-rounded young strikers about.

Statsbomb data on FBref tells the story. Moukoko is 97th percentile and above for strikers in Europe’s top 5 leagues in non-penalty goals, non-penalty expected goals, and assists.

His pass completion (78%) is 89th percentile. Moukoko’s pressures per 90 are at the 80th percentile. His tackles are 92nd.

Put it all together and we might have Jurgen Klopp’s dream signing.

So if Moukoko can translate those numbers effectively to more minutes – and suggestions are that he can – we’re talking about a prolific striker who finds lots of chances, passes the ball consistently well, and presses harder than most.

And again, the signs are good that he can do this as a regular starter. Moukoko scored, assisted and won a tackle in 90 minutes against Stuttgart this weekend. He had three tackles, an interception and a goal in 89 minutes against Bayern Munich just a few weeks ago.

Moukoko’s current data suggests he’d slot right into Klopp’s system at Liverpool. He’ll get chances and press well – essentially the two things the boss wants.

So the kicker here is that Moukoko doesn’t turn 18 until next month. He’s a remarkably young player already performing at a level high enough to deliver for Liverpool – and he’ll only get better.

We can’t think of a more tailor-made forward for Liverpool at that age. If the Reds can get him, let alone for free, they’ve got to find a way to make it happen.
