It would make sense for reported Liverpool transfer target Jude Bellingham to join Bayern Munich next year.
That’s the view of TalkSPORT pundit Stuart Pearce. Speaking on the radio station earlier this morning, Pearce suggested that Bellingham should stay in Germany, rather than join a Premier League club like Liverpool.
“Possibility wise he seems to be enjoying his work in Germany. Bayern are obviously the dominant force there, I can see that as part of it,” said Pearce. “Why should there be a big clamour to get to the Premier League? We sit on our island and think that the world revolves around us at times. I think for development for him he could go and have three or four years at Bayern if he wanted to.
“Probably after this World Cup, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’d probably get the opportunity to go wherever he wants. For me, it makes sense. He’s enjoying his football there, he knows the league there, he’s got good exposure, Champions league football, and Bayern will probably be one of the favourites to win the Champions League this year.”
Bayern aren’t currently seen as being one of the favourites to sign the England man. But, used to poaching Borussia Dortmund’s top players, you can’t completely rule them out.
Bayern not atop the pile for Bellingham
It’s a little strange that Bayern haven’t been suggested too strongly as an option for Bellingham, who Roy Keane recently called ‘amazing.‘ As one of the biggest clubs in the world, they tend to be in the mix for the very best players.
And as Pearce points out, the move could be seen as a natural progression for the 19-year-old.
However, it’s rare that the German Champions are willing to spend quite so much money on one player. They like to think of themselves as operating differently to the other elite clubs around Europe.
As a result, you can easily see them baulking at the huge fee their domestic rivals are asking for. Perhaps they wouldn’t want to be seen as being taken for a ride by Dortmund should the transfer not work out, too.
So, instead, it would appear that Bayern are somewhat out of the running. With Real Madrid seemingly the only other option, you’d expect Bellingham to end up in the Premier League.
Whether or not that’s with Liverpool is yet to be determined. The Reds are definitely right in the mix.
But facing the financial might of Manchester City, things aren’t going to be straight forward. Depending on who you ask, Liverpool are, or are not favourites to be the teenager’s next club.
The race to sign one of the world’s hottest talents will probably go down to the wire. For now, though, Bayern don’t appear to be leaders in the race.
