Liverpool are now the only club standing in the way of Konrad Laimer joining Bayern Munich next summer.
The RB Leipzig man will be a free agent in June, having failed to sign an extension at his current club. And, according to Bild, his next destination has been narrowed down to two of Europe’s elite.
It’s Bayern, not Liverpool, who are reportedly leading this race, though. Laimer is claimed to have already agreed terms with the German Champions.
And that would reportedly be that, were in not for the interest of Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. Liverpool are said to be ‘still digging’ at Laimer and haven’t given up just yet.
One club who have though, is Chelsea. Bild report that the Blues were turned down by Laimer. The race goes on, the ball very much in Liverpool’s court.

Laimer race comes down to the wire
It’s very easy to see why Liverpool aren’t going down without a fight for Laimer.
With Klopp’s midfield needing some major surgery this summer, things could get expensive. As a result, a quality, free signing like Laimer would be very attractive indeed.
The Austrian is still young enough that he can be a part of Liverpool’s next great squad. He is also good enough to compete for a starting spot immediately.
When Bayern come into the picture though, it can be hard for other clubs to make their case. Laimer is apparently keen to work with Julian Nagelsmann again, which could obviously make things awkward for Liverpool.

But the 25-year-old has also spoken of his interest in playing in the Premier League and for the Reds in particular.
Liverpool’s interest has been long-standing and perhaps they have just about done enough groundwork to get this over the line.
Whoever gets Laimer will be getting an absolute bargain, that much is clear. Fingers crossed that Liverpool can convince the Austria international that his future lies on Merseyside.
