Liverpool have landed a big boost in the club’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen as the Nigeria star is interested in a move to the Premier League, and Napoli have priced Arsenal out of a deal.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who note the idea of leaving Serie A for the English top-flight this summer intrigues Osimhen. The 23-year-old has plied his trade in Italy for the past two years, after leaving Lille in a €70m (£60m) deal excluding €10m (£8.5m) in potential add-ons.

Osimhen remains under contract in Naples until 2025, but has several big European sides at his door declaring their interest. Bayern Munich have recently contacted the striker’s agent to register their admiration, with Julian Nagelsmann considering replacements for Robert Lewandowski.

Newcastle United have also shown their interest in Osimhen, having tracked the attacker for several months. But the Toon are not alone among Premier League clubs, and Calciomercato suggest a mega money offer from an English top-flight side could arrive at Napoli’s offices soon.

But the Azzurri have made it clear that Osimhen would only leave the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona for €100-110m (£86-94.5m). President Aurelio De Laurentiis will refuse to meet any club that offers below a nine-figure sum, believing Osimhen is yet to reach his full potential.

De Laurentiis and boss Luciano Spalletti feel injuries have prevented Osimhen from fulfilling his full potential. Even though he scored 18 goals and offered six assists across 32 games in all competitions this term. He missed 13 fixtures as a result of two spells out through injury.

Victor Osimhen interested in Prem move, as Napoli price Arsenal out of Liverpool target

Napoli’s lavish price tag has forced Arsenal to withdraw their interest in Osimhen, handing Liverpool a big boost. That’s because the Mirror have cited the Reds as a rival suitor for the 21-cap attacker, who recently changed agent with the intention of now moving to England.

Jurgen Klopp may not need to wait for Napoli to find a replacement should the Reds find the funds to buy Osimhen, either. Azzurri sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli has identified four potential replacements already in Sebastien Haller, Armando Broja, Gianluca Scamacca and Beto.

But the price Napoli are demanding for Osimhen will put Liverpool’s interest to the test this summer. Even if he can still develop from the player Walter Mazzarri already hails.

He told DAZN, via quotes by Football-Italia, back in September: “Osimhen is phenomenal, because he runs alone at five players and gets through. If you look at genuine scoring opportunities, compared to the number Napoli created lately, I didn’t see that many.

“We intentionally kept a deep defensive line, because if we pushed higher like the other teams, we’d concede four or five like they did with Osimhen able to run into space.”
