Fabrizio Romano has update to give Liverpool fans which they have all been asking him for

Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho will ‘take his time’ to choose which national side he will represent at senior level.

The 20-year-old stunned the Portugal U21 camp last week by refusing to answer a call-up. He also informed the Portuguese coach that he doesn’t wish to be considered for future selection, either.

Now, speaking to Caught Offside, journalist Fabrizio Romano has given an update on what Carvalho’s next move will be.

“Some Liverpool fans have been asking me about the slightly strange situation involving Fabio Carvalho and the Portugal Under-21s” Romano began.

“I think Carvalho wants to take his time before deciding his national team future, it’s normal. Maybe the process was not the best one for the Portugal U21 coach, but he wants to take his time.”

Carvalho putting eggs in England basket

While it’s understandable that Carvalho would wish to take his time with such a decision, it still feels strange.

There’s no reason the Liverpool forward couldn’t have carried on playing for Portugal whilst making his mind up.

To completely shut himself away from a call-up would seem counter productive. On the one hand, it should free him up to focus completely on Liverpool, which is obviously a good thing.

But on the other, it will surely put him in the bad books of the Portuguese FA. Having turned them down throughout the underage groups up until the U21s, Carvalho has now shunned them once more.

As a result, it would appear that Liverpool’s No.28 doesn’t actually have too much of a decision to make.

Right now, you’d have to think that all of Carvalho’s eggs are now firmly in the England basket.

In that respect, he may have a bit of time to think about his decision. Although he’s a fine young player, the former Fulham man is some way down the England pecking order,

You have to admire his confidence that he can break through, though, and he’s in the right place to do it. The way we see it, anything that serves as extra motivation for his Liverpool career is good news for the Reds.
