'If you're a Spurs fan': TalkSPORT pundit suggests Tottenham would love to sign 24-year-old Liverpool player

Tottenham Hotspur fans would absolutely love their club to sign Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

That’s the view of TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent. Speaking about which England stars could do with leaving their current clubs, Bent suggested the same destination for three different players.

“If you’re a Spurs fan, where your current team are, Reece James would be (the England player you would most like to sign). Reece James, or even, Trent (Alexander-Arnold) or (Kieran) Trippier. Any of that right back situation,” said the former Tottenham striker.

Good luck with that, Benty! Perhaps three of the most un-gettable players in the England squad right now. Hands off.

Trent the envy of Europe

Of course Spurs would love to sign Alexander-Arnold, which club wouldn’t? Despite debate over his defensive qualities, the right-back would be a huge asset for any of the biggest teams on the planet.

Thankfully, he’s already at one and going nowhere.

What Bent’s words do illustrate is how lucky Liverpool are to have Trent in their squad. Sometimes you get lucky with academy players, and the Reds struck gold with the 24-year-old.

Spurs, meanwhile, have never really replaced Trippier since his exit in 2019. Alexander-Arnold may be slightly suspect defensively, but compared to the much-maligned Emerson Royal, he looks like a regular Bobby Moore.

Hopefully he’ll get the chance to demonstrate his skills throughout the tournament in Qatar.

If he does, perhaps the likes of Real Madrid may feel the need to test Liverpool’s resolve over Trent. But no matter what any club would be willing to offer, you can’t see the Reds coming to the table.

Some fans may feel that this would be a mistake. There’s a train of thinking that Liverpool could benefit from having a slightly more solid full-back.

We don’t subscribe to that, though. Trent is a generational player who has pretty much redefined the role he plays. Those type of stars don’t come around often. When they do, you do everything possible to hang onto them.
