Liverpool are one of the main clubs keeping a watchful eye over Cody’s Gakpo’s situation at PSV Eindhoven.
That’s according to journalist Dean Jones. Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones claimed that Liverpool have been heavily scouting the Dutchman on the down-low.
“They have watched him and they have monitored him very closely, as closely as most other teams have so far. They just haven’t been linked with him as frequently,” said the journalist.
“Now, I think it depends really on how their squad shapes up for the return to action as to whether they will be likely to go for him.”
Although Liverpool have been linked with Gakpo, the rumours have been much stronger towards clubs such as Manchester United.

Gakpo heading for the top
Gakpo looks set to be a breakout star at the World Cup this winter. The Holland international has been in absolutely stunning form for PSV.
The 23-year-old has scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists this season. Remarkable numbers at this stage of the campaign.
As a result, he has been said to be hot property in the transfer market. The same was actually true during the summer. But despite rumours that Liverpool and Manchester City had been in contact with Gakpo, he ended up staying at PSV.
That wasn’t a foregone conclusion, though. Gakpo was actually reported to be very close to joining Leeds United on transfer deadline day.

However, the Yorkshire club couldn’t come to an agreement with PSV, or the player himself. As per TalkSPORT, the Dutch club rejected a bid of £35m for their captain.
As it turns out, that was probably for the best for Gakpo. With all due respect to Leeds, he now looks on course to join one of Europe’s elite over the coming months.
Whether or not that will be Liverpool, only time will tell. It would appear that the Reds interest is genuine, though. Upon being questioned about Gakpo’s future just last week, PSV sporting director Marcel Brands also suggested that Anfield would be the perfect landing spot for the Dutch winger.
It seems likely that we haven’t heard the last of this one.
